We enjoyed a fun-filled Halloween weekend with the community. On Friday, the Family Achievement Program celebrated Trunk or Treat at the Pillar Church of Woodlawn. It was great to see the decorated cars and kids and parents in costumes.
On Sunday afternoon, the Sacramento Neighborhood Center held its Trunk or Treat and Resource Fair. Participants were treated to games and activities, a jack-o’-lantern carving competition, and a costume contest. We are so grateful to Medical Care for Children Partnerships Foundation for providing dental screenings for children in attendance.
Our Creekside Community Center youth enjoyed a Pumpkin Smash the day after Halloween. The idea was to smash away the things causing them negative emotions. They wrote their feelings on their pumpkins, including “I am sad because my aunt died from a car crash,” and “I am upset because one of my friends stole something from me.” They then smashed the pumpkins, along with the stress and anxiety they felt. We are so proud of our staff and volunteers for creating a meaningful activity for the youth in our community.
