United Community’s Sacramento Neighborhood Center participated in Fairfax County NAACP’s Family Fun Day at Mount Vernon Woods Park on Saturday, June 4. Families enjoyed eco-friendly activities and learned more about environmental resources in the community. Community members of all ages enjoyed an afternoon of environmental exploration, including bird watching, counting caterpillars, and flower dying. Families also made DIY binoculars, participated in recycling relay races, and played other outdoor games.
Youth from our SPARKS Summer Camp and after-school programs led their own science experiment, putting freshly cut white carnations in a tube of water containing food coloring to see how the petals changed color.
SPARKS Summer Camp starts next week, and we are all looking forward to a summer of field trips, science experiments, environmental exploration, creativity, and fun.
